A Tour of Chinese Art and Food in Boston

To register call Freeport Adult Education at 865-6171.  Join Chris for a day of art, food, and shopping in and around Boston's Chinatown!   Start the day with a visit to the Museum of Fine Arts, where our expert docent will talk about some of the artifacts in the Asian Collection.  Then we'll head to Chinatown where you can choose from dozens of authentic restaurants.  For those interested in authentic Family Style Chinese Dim Sum, Chris will head to China Pearl, where he and his family have dined for over 50 years!  After lunch, let’s stroll around Chinatown before we head out to Quincy for a visit to Kamman Marketplace, the largest Indoor Asian Market in New England with over 40 food and other shops. So bring your cameras, appetites, and shopping lists!  Lunch not included in cost.

Abstract Landscapes Using Fluid Acrylics

This class is for the artist who has some experience with acrylic paint. Fluid acrylics is a versatile medium that handles a little like full bodied acrylics and a little like watercolor. Students will explore the landscape working from pure abstraction towards nature, painting with no preconceived notion of the results using their intuition to develop the piece. Students are responsible for their own materials.

Acrylic Painting for Beginners

Acrylic painting may be just the tool you need to enjoy a colorfilled life, and it’s easier to learn than you may think! Through a series of guided lessons and demonstrations, each student will learn how to mix colors, arrange pleasing compositions, use color theory and understand technical aspects of acrylic paint on various surfaces. Don’t worry about prior skills – we will nurture everyone in a supportive environment.

Acrylic Painting for Intermediates

America’s Boating Course

Learn the basics of boating: rules of the road, navigational lights and buoys, use of compass for bearings, marine charts and introduction to piloting. Course meets the requirements of most states for a recreational boating license. Course is taught by experienced members of the United States Sail and Power Squadron. Book and plotting tools are included. No discounts.

Aprons used to be an essential part of every woman’s wardrobe. In this 5-week course students will make several retro-style full length aprons that flatter the figure (NO gathered waists!). The instructor will guide students through the basic sewing construction of each apron and then show several different and unique options for embellishing. Students will be shown how to incorporate up-cycled materials into their aprons like vintage trims and laces, old denim, buttons, tablecloth linens and much more. Learn how to make your own binding, transfer Grandma’s famous cookie recipe onto fabric, apply an applique, and use a ruffle foot attachment! Students must bring their own sewing machine and supplies, an extension cord and have basic knowledge about using their sewing machine. Perfect for those with little or a lot of sewing experience. $12 fee to instructor.

Archery Hunter Education

Mar 10, 2015 at 6 pm, runs for 2 weeks

An archery education course will provide a student with a wealth of knowledge regarding equipment, proper hunting methods, responsibilities, and general safety. Most classes will have some outdoor exercises. Passage of a final exam is required. You must attend both Wednesday and Sunday in order to receive your certificate.

Assisted Dying: Understanding the Debate Session I.

The ethically-charged question of hastening one’s own death often prompts extreme reaction. Important concerns arise from every arena. Information is abundantly available and much of it convincing. What do these laws really provide? How is one to sort it all out? Is it possible to accept differing points of view and hold to a personal truth while allowing others their version? With straightforward information and candid discussion, there is a clear path to understanding the assisted dying debate. This workshop makes it possible for participants to explore their own perspectives while challenging themselves to experience others’ points of view. No Discounts
