Using a magnifying glass, students will examine every minute detail of a subject. Learn to measure and scale up the botanical specimen of your choice for final art work. Drawing experience necessary. Materials to bring: 2H, and HB pencils, kneaded eraser, colored pencils, magnifying glass, pencil sharpener...battery operated is best. 6" or 12" clear plastic ruler, drawing board....at least 18" square, masking tape, tracing paper, 11 x 14 Strathmore drawing paper, best or medium surface. Whether you choose simple graphite or colored pencils, the principle is the same. Correct form and subtle tones will enable you to achieve a realistic drawing of whatever white subject you choose to bring to class. Drawing experience necessary. Bring lunch & snacks. Materials to bring: 11 x 14" Strathmore Drawing paper, Best or medium surface, Canson tracing paper, #2H and HB pencils, kneaded eraser, pencil sharpener, drawing board, at least 18" square, colored pencils, 6" or 12" clear plastic ruler, masking tape, magnifying glass...desirable, but not necessary. Canoe Paddle Making

Clay, Beyond the Wheel

Have you avoided creating with clay because you don't have access to a potter's wheel? This class will take you beyond the wheel to create beautiful hand built pieces. Each week will focus on a different hand building technique: pinch, coil and slab. You will also learn various surface designs methods to enhance your work. This class will give you a good foundation to start creating with clay off the wheel! Glazing and firing schedule will be discussed during class.
