Maine Driving Dynamics, Session I

Maine Driving Dynamics offers drivers the opportunity to improve their defensive driving abilities. This 5-hour course includes collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine’s highways. The course is taught by a certified Maine Driving Dynamics instructor. Those completing the course receive a 3-point credit on their driving record. Must attend both evenings. Marine Navigation (Piloting)

Marine Navigation (Piloting) is the first of the navigational classes focusing on techniques for piloting a boat in coastal and inland conditions. The course emphasizes planning and checking, along with the use of GPS for determining position, and introduces digital charting along with traditional charting, compass and dead reckoning skills. Piloting, labeling, use of the compass, aids to navigation and a host of related topics are included in this approach to coastal and inland piloting. Navigation tools are required and available for purchase from the instructor if needed. Power Squadron members, call Merrymeeting for your discounted rate of $90. No other discounts.

Private Pilot Ground School

American Classic Flying Club at the Brunswick Executive Airport is offering this private pilot ground school with the goal of providing the student with the requisite knowledge to pass the FAA written exam, which is one major step toward certification as a private pilot. You will learn about aerodynamics, aircraft systems, flight controls, weather, navigation, FAA regulations, aeromedical factors, airspace, control tower operations and much more. The class is designed to be engaging, interactive and fun and will be conducted by certified flight instructors from the flying club. You may also begin your flight training at any time with our instructors and aircraft for an additional cost. No prior aviation knowledge is required. Price includes books, E6B manual flight computer, plotter.

USCG-Approved Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV)

The Captain School Key West, through local instructor John Coffin, is offering the Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV), commonly called 6-Pack course. The course qualifies students for a Coast Guard license to operate vessels carrying up to six passengers for hire (OUPV). $50 registration fee is payable to Merrymeeting before starting of the course. The remaining $800, payable to Knowledge Unlimited, Inc, is due at the first class. This fee includes texts, charts, use of navigation tools, and the USCG-approved exam. Payment arrangements may be made with the instructor. The Master Upgrade, $350 additional, runs for 4 weeks after the completion of the OUPV Course.
