Who can resist the smell of fresh bread baking? We will learn how to mix, knead, proof and shape basic yeast dough. Participants will learn how to create cloverleaf rolls, butter crescents, cinnamon swirls, tea rings and whole-wheat rolls as well as an economical savory braid that comes together quickly. Various yeast bread recipes will be shared and discussed. Each student will go home with a basket of yummy warm samples. Bring an apron, cutting board and plastic containers to take home doughs and finished items in. Winter in Maine is made for an activity like this! $10 material fee included in price of class. Beginning French II

Let's continue from where French 1 left off. We will review basic verbs (present, past, conditional), pronouns, and idiomatic phrases and cover Chapters 15 to 23 to complete the textbook Barron's E-Z French. Allons-y! Must take French I before signing up. Students should have reliable internet and an audio- and video-enabled device to participate.

Learn, or improve upon, drawing fundamentals as we work from simple still life arrangements. Individual guidance will be provided and instruction given. Some of the ideas we will cover are: measuring and sighting angles, mark making, shape, value, and how your eye moves through the drawing. Students are encouraged to find the dry media that works for them (graphite, charcoal, conte, etc.), and move between these freely. Various types of drawing, techniques, and artists will be shown to further personal development and illustrate ideas. All levels encouraged and welcome.

Pet Portraits in Acrylic

Use of fun colors and playfulness are a must in this class! Canvas and paints are supplied.

Invasive Bittersweet Baskets

Oriental, Asian, or round-leaved bittersweet is a creeping vine with inedible berries that is invasive in North America. Frustrating to gardeners and arborists, bittersweet is considered a largely useless bane on wild land. Wouldn’t it be nice if it were good for something? We can use ancient harvesting techniques to tend Asian bittersweet in the wild, simultaneously harvesting material for baskets while managing future growth. Learn to weave a bittersweet basket. We'll employ several different weaving techniques in order to create a strong, beautiful basket for foraging, or use in the kitchen or garden.

Among the many benefits, practicing mindfulness can help to reduce stress and enhance wellbeing, bring more balance to how we hold life’s experiences, cultivate a sense of presence and grounding, and invite savoring of pleasant experiences. Join this three-session course to explore, practice, and discuss a range of mindfulness practices including: meditations, mindfulness exercises, and small group discussions to deepen learning and connect with fellow participants. All course exercises and discussions will be offered in a relaxed and spacious way
