Hospice Volunteer Training with Beacon Hospice

Come explore what it means to be a hospice volunteer, supporting people with life-limiting illnesses. The 20-hour training will complete State requirements for you to serve as a “direct care” volunteer interacting with patients and families in a variety of ways: chatting, calling or zooming; reading to patients; providing respite to a caregiver; sitting vigil at the bedside of someone with only days to live and more. Other “indirect” opportunities might find you making a life collage for folks who cannot speak, working on legacy projects, etc., or you might prefer helping administratively even from home. Hospice staff will help teach the history/philosophy of hospice, medical aspects of care, family dynamics, communication, loss, grief and bereavement, and spirituality at the end of life. Upon completion of this 10-week course, you will receive a hospice certificate, and if you choose to volunteer, you would be working with the instructor, your Volunteer Coordinator, for Beacon Hospice patients in your area. Covid 19 safety protocols will be followed, including masks and social distancing.
