Would you like to become a Certified Nursing Assistant? This State-approved 180-hour course consists of classroom time, lab practice and clinical work. Time is spent on the aspects of caring for patients and residents, diseases and disease processes, and anatomy and physiology. Clinical hours allow the student to practice what was learned in the classroom with actual hands-on experience. The Certified Nursing Assistant State Competency Test is administered upon completion of the course. To register for this class, download the application from merrymeeting.org and return it to either the Topsham or Bath adult education office. Clinical Medical Assistant

This program will train students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Instruction includes among other things preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy and the cardiac life cycle. Students will review important topics including phlebotomy, pharmacology, the proper use and administration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, cardiology including proper lead placements, a professional workplace behavior, ethics and the legal aspects of healthcare. This program includes 140 hours of classroom lecture and hands on labs, as well as an onsite clinical after successful completion of the program. Note: Upon successful completion of this program, students would be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination. Textbook included in price of the course.

Pharmacy Technician

This comprehensive 50 hour program will prepare students to work as a pharmacy technician in a retail or other pharmacy setting and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Course content includes pharmacy medical terminology, history of pharmacy, pharmacy practice in multiple environments, pharmacy calculations and measurements, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Through classroom lecture and hands on labs, students will review dosage calculations, drug classifications, the “top 200 drugs,” I.V. flow rates, sterile compounding, dose conversions, aseptic technique, the handling of sterile products, total parental nutrition (TPN), dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement. Textbook inlcuded in the price of the course.

Phlebotomy Technician

This 90 hour Phlebotomy Technician Program prepares professionals to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis. Students will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. Classroom and lab work includes terminology, anatomy and physiology; blood collection procedures; specimen hands-on practice; and training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods. Textbook included in the price of the course.

Real Estate Sales Agent

The Sales Agent course covers all of the material required by Maine License Law and Rules to qualify for a Sales Agent license. The state of Maine requires that a person pass the 55-hour Sales Agent course and a state exam, both with a 75 percent or better, in order to qualify for a Sales Agent license. Course includes all materials. Class meets from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Brunswick High School, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays at Merrymeeting Adult Ed Center.
