MidCoast Ukes: Next Steps

This is an ongoing instructional and playing session for students that have participated in the Intro to Ukulele session offered by Nina Andersen. Each session will build on the skills learned in the Intro class and we'll build a solid repertoire of songs to play together.
This class meets on the following Tuesdays: 9/30, 10/14, 10/28, 11/12 (Wednesday), 11/25, 12/9. However, the first classs (9/30) will meet at the library, as already arranged with Nina. All other class dates will meet at the Adult Ed Center in Topsham.
Cuban Salsa: Level 1
with Anna Golendukhina

In this class, students will learn the basics of the Salsa footwork and some simple, fun moves that will get you out on the dance floor. You will learn how to connect with any partner, and build confidence dancing to different styles and tempos and music. Students will be introduced to the famous Salsa Rueda. Partner is recommended. This is a 5 session class. *No Class: 1/28.
Play the Ukulele, Your Journey Begins Here

On the uke you can knock out folk music, rock, blues, jazz, pop, country, tunes old and new -- even classical music. Duncan Perry, who has taught more than 1,000 students of all ages, will introduce you to essential chords and playing techniques using commonly known songs. Oh, and there are lots of laughs along the way. And, learning to play an instrument is good for your brain! You will need a playable ukulele and an electronic tuner or a tuner app. And when folks hear you play this happy instrument, well, they just have to smile! Intro to Latin Dance II: Bachata, Salsa & Rumba

Come learn some more advanced Latin dance moves with Barbara! You will learn about Bachata, Salsa & Rumba. Add to your Latin Dance experience with Afro-Cuban origin that became internationally popular in the last century. Rumba, the "Dance of Love" has your hips swaying and close partner connections. A popular choice for slow partner dances of both Latin and pop music. The Bachata is a playful Latin dance from the Dominican Republic. This style is danced with soft hip motions, turns and side-to-side footwork. The music of Bachata is very recognizable for its predominant use of the electric guitar combined with Caribbean and Latin musical influences. Salsa is a Latin dance, associated with the music genre of the same name, which was first popularized in the United States in the 1960s in New York City. Salsa is an amalgamation of Cuban dances, such as mambo, pachanga and rumba, as well as American dances such as swing and tap. The basic Salsa dance rhythm consists of taking three steps for every four beats of music.
Night Club Dance Basics
