Landscape on Location

with Jennifer Linskey

Calendar Jul 26, 2022 at 1 pm, runs for 4 weeks

Get some practice thinking about foreground, middle ground, and background while enjoying the fresh air at Mitchell Field. In this class I will address how one goes about painting outside, which is a way that I have been painting for over 30 years. If you have an easel and want to paint en plein-air, great! If you'd rather sit on a blanket and draw, that's okay too. Bring the media you'd like to work in: be it oil pastels, oil bars, oil paints, acrylic paints, watercolor, colored pencil, or graphite. I'll discuss materials, set up in the landscape, composition, color, and give you individual feedback and instruction. A suggested materials list will be provided after registering.

Color Theory

with Jennifer Linskey

Calendar Jul 27, 2022 at 5:30 pm, runs for 4 weeks

“Why do two colors, put one next to the other, sing? Can one really explain this?” Picasso is talking about color theory!—which in its simplest terms is the way color behaves in context, and the relationships between colors. In this class we will expand color wheel knowledge, explore color schemes, learn color vocabulary, and play with ideas about how to use color effectively, and purposefully. We will ask questions like: What is the color doing in this space? Is it coming forward or going back? Why is a bright color like yellow receding in space in this painting, while in another painting yellow is the brightest value and one of the first parts of the painting our eye moves toward? We will share our discoveries in our studio time together as we explore fun color exercises. You are welcome to work in watercolor, acrylic, or a bit of both. Working in watercolor will allow you to see colors interact with each other in the mixing process. Please bear in mind this is not a watercolor technique class. Make sure acrylics are at least student grade so that when mixed your colors still have vibrancy. Berol prismacolor colored pencils will work with some of the exercises, and if you have Color-aid paper from a previous art class, or color swatches bring them! A materials must have list will be provided before the first class meeting, All levels are welcome and encouraged.

Calendar Jul 27, 2022 at 6:30 pm, runs for 2 weeks

This class will cover the basics of house construction, air and heat movement through the house, and how you can easily stop some of the leaks that take 20 to 40% of the heat out of many homes. The value of an energy audit includes how your house heating system is functioning, what are the low hanging fruit you can gather to reduce heat loss, and where are the funds available to do this. Some of these steps you can take yourself to make cold weather clear window inserts,  weather-strip your doors, or close unused vents. Efficiency Maine grants for low income people pay up to $9600 per household for insulation, or up to $3500 for higher income. 7 Rivers Habitat for Humanity partners with Harpswell to repair and keep lower income people in their homes as they age. 7 Rivers H4H also does safety repairs and weatherization in all of Lincoln, Sagadahoc Counties.
