Ballroom Dance, Beginner Session II

Students get a unique opportunity to learn both Latin and American Ballroom in one class! Latin Ballroom is one of the hottest dance crazes to hit the U.S.; it's fun, romantic and a great form of exercise. Cruises, nightclubs, weddings, reunions and parties are always more fun when you are dancing, and American Ballroom Dance is a perfect ice breaker. At any social event, the sight of a great dancer moving to a captivating beat is simply irresistible and now you can step in light with confidence. No partner or prior dance experience necessary. In Session I students learn all the basics of Foxtrot, Swing, Salsa and Merengue. In Session II students learn all the basics of Waltz, Rumba, Cha Cha and Tango. Spend Sunday afternoons learning how to quilt in the long-established traditions of gathering to learn, sew, and share. You will learn the entire process of making a 40'"X 40" lap quilt: working in class and at home you will complete a 40”x40” lap quilt . Do you have a digital camera but don’t know how to get the most from it? This class will demystify the knobs and buttons and open the door to creativity. We explore manual settings, Aperture, ISO, and Shutter speed as well as techniques for creative composition and preparing your photos for printing. NOTE: you must have a DSLR (with removable lenses), the camera manual, and a tripod for this class.

Join Chris for a day of art, food, and shopping in and around Boston's Chinatown! Start the day with a shopping trip to Kam Man Marketplace, the largest indoor Asian market in New England with over 400 food and other shops all under one roof. The selection is international and the prices are the lowest around. After shopping we'll head to Chinatown where you will be free to choose from dozens of authentic Asian restaurants and bakeries. For those interested in experiencing authentic Family Style Chinese Dim Sum, Chris will be heading to Boston's oldest Chinese restaurant, China Pearl, where his family has dined for over 50 years. Let us know if you want to do Dim Sum so we can make reservations. After lunch we'll head over to the Museum of Fine Arts, via the T, where you will be free to explore the collections. Chris will give a short 30 minute talk and tour about dragons and Chinese art. So bring your cameras, appetites, and shopping lists! Includes entrance to the Museum of Fine Arts and round trip train transportation and subway card. Lunch is on your own. No refunds or discounts.  Meet at the Brunswick Train Station for a 7:30 AM departure; departing Boston North Station for return at 4:45 PM.

Botanical Drawing Scaling Up

Tiny flowers and fruits have fascinating architecture. In order to be rendered properly, the subject must be enlarged. Using a magnifying glass, students will examine every minute detail of a subject. Learn to measure and scale up the botanical specimen of your choice for final art work. Drawing experience necessary. Bring lunch & snacks. Materials to bring: 2H, and HB pencils, kneaded eraser, colored pencils, magnifying glass, pencil sharpener...battery operated is best. 6" or 12" clear plastic ruler, drawing board....at least 18" square, masking tape, tracing paper, 11 x 14 Strathmore drawing paper, best or medium surface. Botanical subject of your choice. The Mix in Brunswick carries these supplies. Shop early. Bring lunch and snacks. No discounts.
