This is a 3 hour class for children 10 -13 who may spend some time “ home alone “ until parents arrive home. Topics include: 1.Home Safety 2.Basic First Aid 3.Fire escape knowledge  4.Severe weather plans 5.Online Safety 6.Kitchen Safety 7.Healthy eating 8. When to call 911. Children should bring a snack. Registration fee is per child. Siblings discount available; call to register.

Youth Sail Training for Middle School Students

Learn to Sail a Cruising Boat! Accredited program in Nautical Science. Students will become part of the crew and learn all aspects of sailing a cruising boat including navigation, sail handling, anchoring, steering with a tiller, basic engineering, using an outboard, rowing a dinghy, weather prediction, watchstanding, route planning and safe operations. Daily schedule includes sailing, visiting islands by small boat, and learning in company with 6 students and 2 crew. Cost: $295 for 40 hour program. Program runs rain or shine.

AGES: 10-13. LOCATION: on board 23' keelboat (Pearson Ensign).

Polymer Clay Creations: Kids Camp

Come learn, explore and create with Polymer Clay! Kids will be working with simple tools to create unique pieces. During this 3-day creative camp experience, they will learn to make geometric patterns by rolling, stacking and slicing polymer clay. They will be able to make jewelry, key chains, decorative lids for jars, and so many possibilities. All materials provided. No experience required. Camp runs 7/10, 7/11, & 7/12, from 9am-12pm each day. *Ages: 8-12. Instructor: Melissa Smith

Youth Sail Training for High School Students

Learn to Sail a Tall Ship! Accredited program in Nautical Science. Students will become part of the crew and learn all aspect of sailing a tall ship including navigation, sail handling, culinary, anchoring, shiphandling, engineering, voyage planning, weather prediction, watchstanding and safe operations. Daily schedule includes sailing, visiting islands by small boat, and learning in company with 6 students and 2 crew. Licensed professional captain. Cost: $1,500 including meals and a berth for 5 days and 4 nights.

AGES 14-18. LOCATION: on board Schooner Sara Jane and SV Brightside. *One elective credit will be awarded to students by Mt. Ararat High School at the completion of the program.

Alice's Young Explorer's Camp

For one week, each morning, your child will be introduced to nature by learning some basic Registered Maine Guide skills. Throughout the week, they will practice using a compass, learning to identify different flora and fauna, starting a fire, cooking on a fire, tying knots, building shelters, and adapting to different weather conditions. They will create a nature notebook, keep daily logs and drawings, practice outdoor mindful experiences, and be guided by Master Maine Guide Alice Bean Andrenyak. Everyone should dress for the day's weather, bring a small backpack with water and nut-free snacks, pencils and markers, a hat, sunscreen, non-aerosol bug repellent, and their curiosity. *Ages: 8-12.

Eureka! Inventors Camp

Like art, but don't have enough time during the school year? Get ready to draw, paint, make prints, explore collage, and get into a creative headspace in a weeklong art experience. We will work from observation, abstraction, and try out working from imagination. You will learn to: compose your pieces in different ways as we talk about composition, discover what makes an image feel more or less “real”, and expand your comfort zone of materials and techniques. No worries if you haven't had art for awhile, come join us for some summer art-making fun! ***Ages 11-14. Instructor: Jennifer Linskey
