Fall is here, and pears are in season in Maine! With local orchards and farmers markets overflowing with these beauties, why not preserve some of them, so that you can enjoy them year round? Making jam with pears is easy and delicious, and pear jam also makes a great holiday gift! Join Allison Carroll Duffy, Master Food Preserver and cookbook author, for this hands-on workshop, where you’ll learn not only how to make pear jam, but also how to can and preserve it. We’ll cover the basics of safe home canning, including proper procedures, techniques, and use of tools and equipment. Then you will learn hands-on by making a big batch of spiced pear jam, and canning it using the boiling water bath method. There will be plenty of jam to taste, and each participant will go home with a jar to enjoy. $10 materials fee included. No discounts.
