Sailing for Kids: August Session
with Sailing Ships Maine
$295
Only 2 days left to register and 2 seats left!
Merrymeeting charts a new course this summer in partnership with Sailing Ships Maine. Students will learn to row a dinghy, set and strike sail, steer, navigate, use a marine radio, operate a small outboard, watch the weather, tie knots, and follow basic safety. The primary instructional boat, the Paul Bolger-designed 25 yawl, is a strong, beamy, shallow-draft cruising boat ideal for Merrymeeting Bay. The decks are wide and spacious and will keep students socially distanced as they spend the week outdoors. Students should bring lunch, snacks, water bottle, sunscreen, a hat, and wear appropriate shoes (no flip flops). The cost of each session is $295 and includes a one-year membership in U.S. Sailing; U.S. Sailing Small Boat Sailor Certification, full access to the U.S. Sailing Skill-Up App to help students and instructors track individual student accomplishments; National Association of State Boating Law Administrators safety course certification; and a Sailing Ships Maine T-shirt, rope, and journal. Covid 19 safety protocols will follow state and school district recommendations for in-person events. No discounts.
