Authentic Belly Dance, or raks sharqi, is an ancient form of dance. Raks sharqi means “dance of the east” in Arabic. Belly dance celebrates every body type and every stage of life. The dance is proud and powerful and soft and sinewy with elegant and isolating movements emanating from the core. It’s the Pilates of dance. And so much fun! This is a great refresher class for experienced dancers and suitable for dancers new to belly dance. Please wear comfortable clothing, similar to what you might wear to a yoga class that will allow for free movement and the ability to see your movement. Hip scarves make it even more fun. You can dance barefoot or in a pair of comfortable dance shoes in the studio. Zills (finger cymbals) will be used in class. Check in with the instructor before you purchase any. As an added bonus, you will also have access to a video library with instruction, drills, and ongoing choreography during the length of the session. The class fee is per person and for 10 sessions. Learn which papers, materials, and brushes work best for you as we go over the basics of traditional and contemporary watercolor ideas and techniques. Class work will be a combination of watercolor exercises, whereby we learn the behavior of and particularities of watercolor through exercises. We will then apply this knowledge to small set ups so that we can gain some practical application. I will spend some time going over basic drawing ideas, color theory, color mixing, and brush care. A willingness to draw, and/or improve upon drawing skills will enhance your experience in this class. Absolute beginners in both drawing and watercolor need to recognize that they are attempting two new skills: drawing and watercolor. Don't let this dissuade you from signing up, but recognize where you are coming in and give yourself some grace in the moments where drawing is involved. Bring your projects and ideas! This studio class provides space, assistance and encouragement to help you finish what you’ve started or begin something new. Class includes demonstrations, tips and techniques to help you bring your sewing up a notch. Participants should have taken a beginner sewing class or have some sewing experience and should have their own sewing machines. *No Class: 10/14. Instructor: Susan Ellis.

We will make Chinese dumplings with pork filling made from scratch in class. You will learn the multiple styles of folding dumplings using wonton wrappers. Then we will boil the won ton to make a classic wonton soup or chili oil wonton. Additionally, we’ll learn to make our own Sichuan-style chili oil and learn about other common Chinese condiments used for dipping sauces. All ingredients, materials, equipment and recipes will be provided. Program is presented by Jeff Mao of Knead & Nosh in Topsham, ME.

Join Robin to play with the gentle movements of Tai Chi Easy™ on Tuesday afternoons. Each class will begin with a qigong warm-up and tai chi form practice. Ever wanted to take some time for yourself and play with clay? Learn the basics of hand building and wheel throwing in this 6 week class. This class is geared toward the beginner. The first 10 people to sign up have priority on the wheel. Please let admins know if you prefer to hand build or wheel throw so we can keep an accurate account. Glazing will also be covered so that you can leave with finished pieces. $65 materials fee is due to the instructor on the first night of class. *Purchasing additional clay: The fee is an additional $65 to cover the firing, glazes and other consumables used during class.
